Onward Christian Soldiers....

Okay, so Mark Driscoll at the Resurgence website posted an interesting blog about this video. Apparently, they produced it to be shown and given out as a gift to the attendees at a Church Planters' conference. However, after the initial screening, the video was criticized by Bill Hybels, and the thousands of copies shipped to the conference ended up not being distributed.
It's an interesting take on the leadership of the church, and it's an interesting thought on the fact that many of us don't want to face -- that church isn't something for guys to "do." I think Mark hits the nail on the head in many aspects here, though his technique may be a little out there. What do you think? I'm going to watch it again at some point, but I thought I'd throw this out there to get your feedback...

  • I applaud Bill Hybels. It's rare these days that someone from the evangelical "establishment" stands up for the contributions of women within the church. We're more than half of church attendees and we should be equally recognized as leaders.

You don't need a penis to be a leader and it's time that more evangelicals acknowledge this.

This video makes my skin crawl. I see the point Mark Driscoll is making, but he's going about it all wrong and discrediting the valuable contributions of women to the church.

  • True, but on the other hand, Hilby, we have also seen the overemphasis of femininity in the church today - to the detriment of the men, who should be leading their families and churches. I think this is what Mark is going for. It's time that the men step up to the plate and take on more responsibility in the church.

Since the video was produced for an intended audience of church planting men, I have a feeling that the video was aimed sharply at that audience, resulting in the tone you pointed out.

    Just a thought.
